Unnecessary double effect: washing white towels twice white
Have you ever wondered why terry towels should be pure white and visually brightened when they are delivered? Do they really need to be brightened in production when the same thing happens in the industrial laundry? After all, single wash powders, heavy-duty detergents and special liquid detergents often contain optical brighteners. This is why they basically achieve the same effects as a pre-treatment in production: they whiten the fabric! The only difference is that it takes a little longer in the laundry.
A hit in South Korea's laundries: unbleached terry towels
Pre-treatment in production and regular washing have therefore an overlapping effect. Laundry customers from South Korea have been asking frequently whether this double brightening processes, in production and textile treatment, can be avoided. Yes, it can! Since then, we bleach the towels but avoid optical brighteners for their orders. Their elegant towels for highly demanding customers come out closer to the natural color of the cotton which results in a warm-white tone.
What has been successfully established in South Korea's laundry industry, we are now launching on the European market! At Texcare 2024, we will be presenting our “Comfort-Line” stock range in “cotton white 002” for the first time. Apart from the slight visual change from cold to warm white, there is no change in terms of excellent performance and quality characteristics. In contrast, 002 White can boost with an environmental bonus!
Non-bleached terry toweling for the benefit of the environment
This remarkable benefit for nature is achieved by dispensing with two wet finishing processes. This saves water, energy and chemicals. It also produces fewer greenhouse gases and less wastewater. This kind of towels therefore leaves a significantly smaller ecological footprint and lives up to the Fridays for Future movement's demands day in, day out! This is an advantage that all those who are looking for ways to reduce their environmental impact as part of their sustainability strategy can take advantage of: Medium-sized textile service companies and laundries, hotel chains and cruise lines across Europe.
Optical brighteners pollute the environment
But that's not all. It has long been observed that optical brighteners are everywhere in the environment. They fly around as dust in rooms, settle on the skin and enter sewage treatment plants with the wastewater, where they absorb in the sewage sludge. From there, they are widely distributed into the environment because sewage sludge is a good fertilizer. This is why farmers like to take it and spray it on their fields. There, the sunlight gradually breaks down the fluorescent dyes, but this can take up to several months (1, 2). If it rains in the meantime, some of it will end up in the groundwater - and thus back in the food chain.
So, if you are looking for a sustainable solution for your product range, the “Comfort-Line” in cotton white is the perfect choice. See for yourself - at Texcare 2024!
